El Capitan Climbers

To get an idea of the size of El Capitan, I took this picture on April 26, 2000. At the time there were four teams climbing El Capitan. To see just how big climbers appear, move your mouse over the four yellow squares to see an enlarged view of that area (taken with a 500mm lens).

These
two climbers are working their way up a very difficult route. You
can see their rope and gear bag hanging below them.
This
climber is about a thousand feet up the nose route of El Cap, standing
on a small rock platform belaying his partner (not visible) below.
This
image shows a climber resting by a gear bag. His partner is above
him, but not really visible in this image.
Climber
belaying his partner (not visible). High on the face of El Cap,
this climber stood virtually immobile for an hour while his partner
worked his way up to the platform.
